Located in Hopkinton, MA, EMC is a high-end technology company that handles large data storage and application data that is constantly evolving. EMC has been a partner with Northeastern for over three decades, in fact EMC was founded by two people, Dick Egan and Roger Marino, both NU graduates who were passionate about and committed to the co-op program. Co-op is used as a key ingredient to the workforce for EMC and as Brian Gallagher, Sr. VP Symmetrix Engineering said “the biggest thing that EMC gets from the relationship with the co-op students is that the students bring a level of confidence and a can-do attitude to the job.” They hire students with majors in software engineering, hardware engineering and information systems, but they also hire in finance and marketing. They have employed more than 2500 co-ops since 1980 and continue to hire and develop the co-op program today. Vinay Narayana, Quality Engineering Manager, EMC, describes the relationship with Northeastern as “very synergistic, complementary and mutually beneficial to both the students and the company.” A majority of students that do a co-op with EMC are offered a full-time position after graduation.
