This April, the Northeastern University Triathlon Team is sending 12 qualifying athletes to compete at the 2014 Collegiate National Championship in Tempe, Ariz. Both men and women will be racing in an Olympic distance triathlon against collegiate athletes from around the country. To compete, each individual athlete is responsible for covering all trip expenses, including race entry fees, bike transportation, flights, lodging, and van rentals. Through our fundraising efforts, we hope to alleviate some of the financial burden on our individual teammates so all qualifying athletes will be able to participate.
The trip to nationals will give our team the chance to compete at a higher level than our regular collegiate season can offer. This is an unforgettable experience for our team and truly validates the time and effort we put into perfecting our sport. Our athletes work extremely hard to balance school, work, and athletics. Thus, having the opportunity to showcase our commitment and Northeastern pride at the national level is a huge motivator for us over the course of the year.
Our initial goal is to raise $1,440 to cover the costs of the race entry fee for each of our 12 athletes competing in the 2014 Collegiate National Championship. The race entry fee costs $120 per athlete.
Our stretch goal is to raise an additional $10,560 to cover the total cost of the trip to nationals for all team members. This would include funding bike transportation, flights, hotel rooms, and the team van rentals. Reaching this goal would also allow us to pay for our coach to travel to Ariz. with the team. Each athlete is responsible for raising $1,000 to cover all of these expenses, so any donation is greatly appreciated!
Founded in 2007, the NU Triathlon Team is a year-round club sport that makes triathlons accessible for all those who are interested. As a member of the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference (NECTC) and a sanctioned collegiate triathlon team by USA Triathlon, we compete in the intercollegiate arena in the Northeast region and across the nation. Our team is composed of every kind of athlete - from seasoned veterans to complete newbies who train together, race together, and most importantly, have fun together.
