From October to December each year, the Student Alumni Association collects monetary donations and new teddy bears from students, staff, and alumni from around the world. The teddy bears are distributed to local hospitals, homeless shelters, and any local children in need of a "Husky Hug" during the holiday season. These include the Boston Medical Center, Boys and Girls Clubs, Home for Little Wanderers, and more.
This year, through the Catalyst program, we hope to further our impact by giving donors, who may not be able to drop off a teddy bear in person, the opportunity to contribute by making a financial donation online. These donations will allow us to purchase more teddy bears and touch the hearts of even more children. Our Catalyst fundraiser will run in conjunction with our on-campus efforts and our annual Teddy Bear Toss event taking place at Matthews Arena on Dec. 6.
For example, Boston Medical Center uses the bears to not only comfort children, but, in some cases, to demonstrate to show young patients the medical procedures that will be done. Our contact in the pediatrics department has shared that she has put lots and lots of casts on bears! She is excited to receive any donations that we can give, as they are currently low on supplies.
We hope that, as in years past, our Husky Hugs campaign will allow us to make a positive impact on the lives of many deserving children in the Boston area, encourage the spirit of giving throughout Northeastern community, and raise awareness about the great work that these children’s charities are doing.
Our goal is to raise $750 via our Catalyst page. This money will be used to purchase an additional 375 new bears to help us reach our total collection goal of 1,000 teddy bears that will be distributed to local area children’s charities. Your gift of at least $2 will help us provide one more child with a Husky Hug!
