Registration
Continuing students should register for Fall semester courses by August 1 to avoid the cancelation of the health plan for the next academic year. Billing and tuition remission issues, if applicable, can also be avoided by registering by August 1. The ability to add and drop courses is typically available until the second week of the semester.
You should familiarize yourself with all specific program requirements as well as the requirements set forth in the General Regulations.
You should ensure that you are:
- in compliance with any applicable minimum semester hour requirements;
- in compliance with any applicable continuous registration requirements; and
- registered for coursework that is appropriate and approved for your status in your particular program.
For example:
- Full-time international students without SGA awards must be continuously registered for a minimum of eight semester hours of credit per semester.
- Students with Teaching or Research Assistantship awards must be continuously registered for a minimum of six semester hours of credit per semester.
- Students with GSS awards must be continuously registered for a minimum of eight semester hours of credit per semester.
A student working on his or her thesis or dissertation must be registered for continuation until the thesis or dissertation is submitted.
Summer Registration
To avoid having FICA deducted from their stipends, U.S. citizens and permanent residents with summer awards must register for at least three semester hours of credit during the summer semester. Students who have completed their course requirements register for thesis or dissertation continuation to maintain full-time student status.
Web registration period
Web registration via myNEU can begin serveral months prior to the beginning of the semester and generally runs through the second week of classes. Fall registration may begin as early as 6 months prior to the start of classes. The exact dates are listed on the Registrar's website. Students may add or drop classes via myNEU. Please be aware of the posted deadlines and tuition refund schedule. It is expected that students register prior to the start of the semester to ensure their required and/or elective courses of choice have available space. Students can add courses up to the end of the second week of classes.
If you wish to register for a Directed Study or Reading course, please go to the "Forms" link in "Current Students" to view the process and to obtain a contract prior to the start of the semester.
