International Applicants
This page contains information on immigration status verification, billing, identification cards, e-mail accounts, housing (on-campus and off-campus), financial aid, physical exams, immunizations and health insurance.
Immigration Clearance and Course Registration
Newly accepted international students will be blocked from registering until they attend an International Student & Scholar Institute (ISSI) immigration clearance session at the beginning of their first semester.
The International Student & Scholar Institute will send each new student an orientation schedule in the mail when they issue the student an I-20 (or DS-2019) and/or inform the student of Orientation Assistance for International Students (OASIS). If you do not receive a schedule, contact the International Student & Scholar Institute directly or check the orientation page on the ISSI’s Website.

Once you have been cleared by the ISSI, you should meet with your departmental academic advisor to plan your course schedule. When you have agreed upon courses with your advisor, you can register for your courses using the myNEU portal. Information on how to register using the phone registration system is available online via the Registrar's Website.
Housing (on-campus and off-campus)
International students interested in on-campus housing should contact the coordinator of graduate housing in the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Graduate housing is, unfortunately, quite limited. The rooms that are available will be offered to applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.
In order to apply for housing, a Northeastern University Identification Number (NUID) is required. This number is provided by the Graduate School Office. If you have any questions, including those related to housing application deadlines, contact the Department of Housing and Residential Life directly:

Physical Examination Record, Immunization and Medical Care Plan
All international students must complete a Physical Examination Record and provide official immunization documentation before registering for classes. All documentation must be in English. English translations of original documents must be official.
In addition, Massachusetts law requires that all students maintain a medical care plan (health insurance). You may download the required “Health Report” packet from the University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) Website.
Students who do not have access to the Internet can contact Northeastern’s University Health and Counseling Services directly using the contact information below. You should complete the health center documents and requirements prior to leaving your home country because historical medical information is required. Forms may be faxed, mailed or e-mailed. Health records from undergraduate institutions are acceptable. The health services packet also provides information on the student medical care plan, which is mandatory for full-time students.
