PALs - Peer Advising Liaisons

The Center for Academic Services is happy to announce an exciting new program to benefit first year students. The Peer Advising Liaisons [PALs] have been trained to work closely with the Academic Advisors in the Dean’s Office to assist freshman with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Explaining how to read a degree audit
  • Navigating the University and College website
  • Clarifying the course registration process
  • Understanding the NU Core
  • Connecting with other departments and services throughout the University

The PALs hold walk in hours at the beginning of the year during Add/Drop and then again during registration periods in the middle of the semester.  The walk in hours are posted here:

MEET THE PALS!

RuthieRuthie Wyshogrod
Ruthie Wyshogrod is a sophomore International Affairs major. She was born in Rehovot, Israel and moved to Worcester, Mass. with her family at age 11. On campus, Ruthie is in the Honors program and very involved with Students for Israel and Hillel. This past summer, she travelled to Egypt with the College of Arts & Sciences' "Dialogue of Civilizations" program, and she hopes to have many more experiences abroad while at Northeastern. She hopes to continue those experiences abroad with an international co-op in July. In her free time, Ruthie loves to run, hike and just be outside - but only in warm weather. She loves learning languages and is open to basically any kind of music except country.

MikeMike Splain
I’m a sophomore Music Industry Major! I’m from West Chester PA which is about 40 minutes outside Philadelphia. I really like my major because I get to interact with music all day, everyday, who wouldn’t love that? I'm currently the secretary for MEISA (Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association) and On-site booking manager for Distilled Harmony A Cappella. I'm also a Husky Ambassador Tour Guide on campus and obviously a PAL! I want to work in the music industry, hopefully something dealing with music supervision. I also hope to be a part of the ongoing growth of music via the Internet. If there was any advice I’d give to first year students it would have to be get involved on campus, around your dorm, get out there, join some clubs. No matter what it is, many of the things can be put on your resume, giving future companies something that sets you apart from the competition. Northeastern has made me the person I am today. Northeastern has helped me become a diverse individual who will have all the tools and skills necessary to succeed not only in the work place but in life as well. I look forward to meeting and helping all of you, feel free to just ask for advice!

ShanaShana Eatman
I'm Shana, a sophomore in the College of Arts & Sciences. I'm from Norfolk, Ma, a small town 50 minutes south of Boston! After being undeclared for all of freshman year, I finally declared a dual major: international affairs & environmental studies! I love my major and all its classes, and I think I'm going to stick with it (if all goes to plan!) I have several goals being at NU -- I need to get the most out of NU until I graduate in 2012! I'm going to be doing three co-ops. Also, one of my requirements is to go abroad, so I will be doing that. And I want to stay as involved as I can in extracurriculars! Right now, I'm really focused on Social Change through Peace Games because I'm on the e-board. I volunteer once a week and co-teach a first g rade cla robably one of the most rewarding things I've ever done! Also, I'm involved with the Husky Ambassadors program through Admissions. In my free time, I love to nap, hang out with my friends and swim. I'm big into arts&crafts so I try to fit that in, here and there. Coming to NU has been such a good choice for me, and I look forward to many great semesters and I also look forward to meeting and working with you!

DanielleDanielle Donnelly
Hey everyone, my name is Danielle Donnelly and I am currently a Sophomore here at Northeastern. I am originally from Franklin, MA. I am a math major with a minor in Economics. My favorite class of all time is calculus. (I know most people are probably cringing right now!)
After college I want to become an actuary, which is someone who calculates risk for companies. On campus I am involved with PAL(obviously), NSCS, and I play intramural broomball. I also volunteer at an after school program in East Boston one day a week. My roommates and I love watching game show network in our spare time. If I can give you any advice for your freshman year it would be to get involved on campus and to make an effort to get to know your professor on a personal level. It will really help you out in the long run!

KatrineKatrine Eriksen

Hi I'm Katrine Eriksen and I am currently a sophomore here at Northeastern.  I am majoring in environmental science with a concentration in wildlife studies and a minor in evironmental studies.  I am involved in terra society as well as the PAL program on campus.  I am from Fairfield, Connecticut and would love to work on conservation there when I graduate.  I hope to also help pass legislation to stop global warming and turn our economy to renewable energy.  Other than that I love to just having fun and exploring Boston when I have free time!!

AlyssaAlyssa Pandolfi
My name is Alyssa Pandolfi and I am a sophomore Environmental Science major with a minor in Spanish. I'm from North Haven, CT and I enjoy recycling, reading, and spending time outdoors. So far at Northeastern, my favorite class has been Environment and Society, taught by Professor Faber. If I had to give any advice to freshmen, it would be not to have too many expectations and goals. It's good to have an idea of what you want to do and have some general, flexible goals, but don't be afraid to step outside of your career or education plan to try something you like!

Anna Wong
Hi, my name is Anna Wong and I’m a sophomore at Northeastern. I was undeclared my freshmen year, but now my major is International Affairs and I plan to double minor in Business and Psychology. I’m from a small town- Medfield, Massachusetts. I plan to get the most out of my college years by doing all 3 co-ops and studying abroad. I’ve already went on a Dialogue of Civilization trip last summer to China- it was a lot of fun and I highly recommend the Dialogue trips. In my spare time, I like to read, volunteer, learn new languages, listen to music, and just hanging out with friends.
