CHOOSING OR CHANGING YOUR MAJOR

Choosing or changing a major is a big step and can easily feel overwhelming.  If you are struggling with this decision, you are not alone. More than 50% of all college students are undecided and 75% change their major at least once.

Start with Knowing Yourself: What Do You Really Want?

Self-assessment is a check-in with yourself to clarify who you are and what you want. You’ll look at your VIPS: Values, Interests, Personality and Skills.

Career Services has a variety of assessment tools to help you learn more about your VIPS.

Most people, no matter what age or stage, need help if they are not sure of their direction. Make an appointment with a Career Services counselor to talk about what kind of self-assessment plan would work best for you.

CONNECT with people to learn more about careers

  • Do Informational Interviews to get the inside story from professionals in your field.
  • Use HuskyNation to search for alumni who may be willing to meet with you.
  • Use Social Networking sites such as Linkedin and Twitter to connect you to people. Follow Career Services on Twitter and join our Linkedin Group!
  • Attend Career Conversations (Wednesdays at noon) and other Career Services events to meet alumni and professionals in a variety of fields.
  • Attend Career Fairs to learn about employers and career paths
