12:00 PM: Conducting a Long Distance Job Search
Are you thinking of looking for a position outside of Boston? Whether you’re looking in California, New York, or somewhere in between, come to this new workshop to learn strategies and tips for conducting long distance job searches in the U.S. Learn about research and network techniques that will help you manage the long distance job search and break into the job market of a new city.
1:00 PM: Cover Letter Lab
Most people find cover letting writing overwhelming and challenging. It doesn't have to be! Learn how to tackle a cover letter through our interactive Cover Letter Lab. Career Development will guide attendees, step-by-step, using a job description brought to the workshop by each individual. Participants will leave with individualized examples they developed as part of the workshop to be used in their own cover letters. Remember to bring a job description for a position you’re planning on applying to and make it worth your while.
2:00 PM: Interviewing and Salary Negotiation
Learn the key points of interview preparation and discover strategies for responding to both typical and unexpected question at this workshop where we will also review specific scripts and approaches to negotiation for salary and other benefits. Co-presented with Liberty Mutual.
3:00 PM: LinkedIn for Networking
Are you on LinkedIn, but haven’t fully tapped the networking aspect of this impressive social media tool? Join us to learn how to use the broad reach of LinkedIn to effectively network for jobs, internships, or other career related information and leads. Topics will include: ways to reach out to alumni and other professionals, asking for in-person networking meetings (often called informational interviews), how to join and benefit from participating in groups, and researching/following companies. In this session we will not cover what to include in your profile.
