John Ranck

Instructor, Flute

John Ranck has been principal flute with the Melrose Symphony Orchestra since 2004. He also is second flute/piccolo player for the Franklin Performing Arts Company’s annual Nutcracker production. In addition to teaching at Northeastern, he teaches privately, was Visiting Instructor of Flute at the University of Massachusetts – Boston in 2000 and 2003, and was visiting Flute Professor at Rhode Island College in 2007. His Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance degree is from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Thomas Nyfenger, and his Master of Music in Flute Performance degree is from Stony Brook University where hestudied with Samuel Baron. Other important teachers include RobertDick, Bernard Goldberg and Henry Zlotnik. He has studied in masterclasses with Robert Aitken, Jeanne Baxtresser, Eleanor Lawrence, and Andras Adorjan. Assistant Director/Winds for the Composers Conference at Wellesley College, he can be heard with the Trinity Church Choir on their “Candlelight Carol” CD (London Records).
