The NU Music Department offers a wide variety of performance ensembles for all ability levels. These vary from groups like the Symphony Orchestra, Choral Society, and Wind Ensemble to groups like the Jazz Ensemble, Rock Ensemble, and Jazz Choir. The Create Your Own Music and World Music ensembles offer students with less musical experience an opportunity to play music in an ensemble setting as well.

Ensembles are one-credit classes, and the credit is free in most cases. At the discretion of the ensemble director it may be possible for a student to participate in an ensemble without taking the class for credit.

Most ensembles are open to all students regardless of major. However, as Music concentrators are required to take ensembles as part of their curriculum, they receive precedence if competing with a non-Music major of equal musicianship for a position in a group.

Most of the ensembles require an audition or the permission of the director for participation. More information can be found by visiting the individual ensemble descriptions found within this page.
