2011_04_29_fahy

This event is co-funded by Imagine Ireland and the Fulbright Commission.
Northeastern University presents Inter-changes: Irish Piano Music of the 21st Century: a survey of recent Irish piano music, representing a cross-section of styles from the Irish contemporary music scene. From the traditional to the avant-garde, Thérèse Fahy will perform music of contrasting styles and moods by Irish composers of varying ages, personalities and philosophies. Composers include Frank Corcoran, Jonathan Nangle, Ronan Guilfoyle, Siobhán Cleary, Ed Bennet, Raymond Deane, Michael Holohan, Ian Wilson, and Kevin O’Connell.
Dublin-born Thérèse Fahy, one of Ireland’s foremost pianists, enjoys an active performing and teaching career at home and abroad.  Her regular appearances throughout Europe and the United States have met with critical acclaim, as have her broadcasts for both RTÉ and BBC.  In concerto she has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland on numerous occasions, and in chamber music has worked with many of Ireland’s finest musicians.
In recent seasons she has appeared as a soloist with the Israel Symphony Orchestra, given the premières of Conor Linehan’s Concerto for Piano and Jazz Ensemble in Dublin and in New York’s Merkin Hall, and premièred works by Michael Holohan and Marion Ingoldsby, written especially for her.
A student of John O’Conor’s at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Thérèse was awarded scholarships from the Italian and French governments to study in Siena and Paris respectively, and a Fulbright Scholarship to study with Joseph Kalichstein at the St Louis Conservatory, USA.
Thérèse is a senior member of the piano faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music and served as Director of Chamber Music there from 2000 to 2010. Some of her students have been successful in international competitions, including the Shanghai International Piano Competition, Hammamatsu International Piano Competition, AXA Dublin International Piano Competition 2009, and EU International Piano Competition 2009.
