The NU Choral Society and the NU Wind Ensemble perform separately and together a program of joyous music from twentieth-century America. The concert begins with the Choral Society presenting excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s satirical opera, Candide, Sam Pottle’s hilarious Jabberwocky, and Caldwell and Ivory’s arrangement of the traditional Gospel blues song, John the Revelator. The Wind Ensemble will then perform. Finally the combined forces, more than 100 students, will present Vincent Persichetti’s exuberant cantata, Celebrations, based on the poetry of Walt Whitman, and Charles Ives’ effervescent ode to youthful enthusiasm, The Circus Band. Professors Allen Feinstein and Joshua Jacobson conduct.
