2009 Music Tech grad Rob Seaback was awarded the first prize in the SEAMUS (Society of Electro-Acoustic Music US) student composers contest. Seaback was one of 200 entries and will receive $1250 in support of a commission of a new work that will receive its premiere at the 2012 National Conference. Robert Seaback is currently a graduate student in music composition at Mills College.
There were an unprecedented number of student submissions to the festival this year and over one hundred were accepted for performance. This is also an astonishing number of works to be accepted to the National Conference, and bespeaks a growing presence of students in the SEAMUS Community. These works were then adjudicated by an additional panel, Mara Helmuth, Asha Srinivasan, and Nathan Wolek. The prizes were announced during the banquet of the SEAMUS Festival at the University of Miami.
