Call for participation: Eighth Annual Young Composers Festival

WHEN/WHERE
Saturday, January 29, 2011
sponsored by Community Music Center of Boston
Community Music Center of Boston (34 Warren Avenue, Boston)

Reading Session: 3:30-5:00
Members of CMCB faculty will produce a public reading of chamber music by pre-college composers. The ensemble this year will be piano, flute, and violin. Any piece using at least two of those instruments is eligible. Composers are asked to submit scores in time that they arrive by January 1, 2011, and participants will be notified of inclusion soon thereafter. Parts need to be immediately available, or they may be submitted in the initial round. Submissions should be mailed to John Morrison, 25 Wyman Street, Medford, MA 02155. Questions should be directed to John Morrison.

Written and Performed By: 6:00-7:00
A concert of music created (not necessarily written down!) by pre-college students, and performed by their peers. Any kind of new music is desired, whether classically-derived, jazz, rock, hip-hop/rap, free improv: anything works as long as you created it. Composers are responsible for organizing their own players, getting to the concert, and so forth. All we need, ultimately, is a guarantee that the piece will go on as agreed. To get your music on the program, contact John Morrison.

Jazz Composition Workshop: 11:30-12:30
A jazz workshop/reading session incorporating charts written and submitted by students. To be considered, please send your chart to John Morrison, 25 Wyman Street, Medford, MA 02155. Questions should be directed to John Morrison.
