Prof. Alan Schroeder was recently invited to submit testimony regarding the sponsorship of electoral debates to a committee of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament. His written portion was published online.
According to Schroeder, this House of Lords Communications Committee is seeking to determine an effective sponsorship model for prime ministerial debates in the UK. The first-ever such debates were held in 2010, under sponsorship of three television networks, and the next round is anticipated in 2015. The committee is seeking input from interested parties and experts in the field about how televised debates can best serve British voters.
Schroeder was also asked to provide oral testimony to the committee, in via video link. This event is scheduled to take place on February 25th.
