Journalism Professor Laurel Leff has been appointed associate director of The Jewish Studies Program at Northeastern. She will continue her regular faculty assignments as associate professor in the School of Journalism. The appointment was announced by Uta Poiger, dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Working with Director Lori Lefkovitz and longtime Associate Director Jennifer Sartori, Leff will contribute to the continuing expansion of Jewish Studies. She also will chair the committee that holds events for the annual Holocaust Awareness Week each spring.
Author of the acclaimed book “Buried by The Times: The Holocaust and America’s Most Important Newspaper” (Cambridge University Press, 2005), Leff is in her second three-year term as Stotsky Professor of Jewish Historical and Cultural Studies. She is currently researching the United States’ complicated and ambivalent role in saving Europe’s intellectual elite from the Nazis during the 1930s and early 1940s.
