Assistant Professor Dan Kennedy’s upcoming book “The Wired City,” focuses on the New Haven Independent, a nonprofit community newspaper financed by foundation money. His book, to be released in May, was the topic of an article by Luther Turmelle of the New Haven Register, “Book focuses on New Haven in examination of journalism,” was published March 1.
In the article Kennedy compares the Independent, an online news site, with public radio and television venues that are publically and foundation financed. Kennedy said “…nonprofits in other sectors of society, particularly in the area of social services, have seen their donations shrink as a result of the recession.
