Karen has been teaching part-time at Northeastern since 2005, and also teaches part-time at several other schools around Boston. She teaches curricula including public speaking, interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, conflict resolution, and introduction to literature. Before relocating to the Boston area in 2005, Karen taught communication at Kean University in New Jersey for eight years. Her primary research interests over the years have included: the impact of self-esteem on academic and professional success; the impact of service-learning experience on subsequent civic engagement; and the impact of communication technology on interpersonal communication skills. In addition to teaching, Karen has been a professional actress, public speaker, workshop facilitator, and freelance writer. Some of Karen’s favorite leisure activities are going to the theater, going to museums, exploring craft shows, traveling (especially to the Jersey Shore & the Poconos), and spending time with her family.
