In a recent essay on the future of architectural education published in the latest edition of the Boston Society of Architects’ quarterly publication, ArchitectureBoston, School of Architecture director George Thrush suggests that changes in technology, culture, and the cost of education have big implications on a field of study like architecture, due to its multidisciplinary subject matter, and that those changes are an inevitability. “Architecture schools offer a mix of quantitative material (math, physics, structures), cultural material (history, theory, professional norms); and skills (creative problem solving, diagramming, communication, analysis),” Thrush writes. “Not all will lend themselves to online delivery right away.”
