Photographer Mitch Weiss, AMD’09, has immortalized an impressive number of cultural icons in his four-year career. It all started with this portrait of pop singer Lady Gaga—commissioned by Clear Channel Communications in 2008. Since then, he’s had the opportunity to shoot all sorts of celebrities, from actress-singer Katy Perry to world-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. His portfolio also includes still lifes, photojournalism, and landscapes.
The art world is taking note of Weiss’ work: Critics have raved that his sophisticated vision belies his age. And last spring, his photographs were included in Boston’s prestigious Robert Klein Gallery exhibition of New England photographers.
And to think these images never would have been captured if Weiss hadn’t switched majors from nursing to graphic design. “I decided to follow my passion,” he says.
