How to Choose an Architecture School

George Thrush, Director of the School of Architecture, discusses the different types of architecture schools and the criteria students should consider when selecting a program.

Students learn about global forces that shape cities in different contexts: design, history, technology, commerce and culture. What sets the program apart is its commitment to bringing the power of critical thinking and design innovation to the very real problems encountered by the cities of the world today.

The School of Architecture is situated in the College of Arts, Media, and Design. Other disciplines in the college include art, design, music, theater, journalism, media + screen studies and communication studies. The School of Architecture’s undergraduate curriculum links together the professional training necessary for a career in the field, but also the creative problem-solving and liberal arts preparation that is critical for navigating the challenges of today’s world.

The undergraduate program is a five-year program that includes required co-op employment and study-abroad semesters. Students are also welcome to participate in all College of Arts, Media and Design opportunities, including the Honors Program.
