In all programs, students learn the value of leadership through design. They learn to be proactive, and to use design to synthesize the many variables in complex contemporary problems. The School hosts regular conferences and students do research on the real challenges facing our cities, like the need for better use of manufactured housing, ways to improve the public review process, designing tall buildings in historic cities, and how to plan for the challenges of rising ocean levels. Students have been involved with significant projects affecting post-industrial urban areas all over New England.
