LARC 2140 Designed Urban Ecologies Studio tours superfund site with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy
This spring, Brad Goetz, studio instructor and the second year Urban Landscape students met with Hans Hesselein, Executive Director of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy to document the Gowanus Urban Watershed with photography and found objects.
During site reconnaissance, each student was tasked to utilize photography in a systemic manner, to reveal or reinforce patterns, relationships, and juxtapositions of infrastructure and ecology. The students will use the Gowanus Canal’s post industrial waterfront and superfund status as a point of departure to probe the interconnected nature of ecological systems and constructed infrastructures.
