On Friday January 17 at 4 pm, the first phase of the I-93 Under-Story will officially open to the public. The I-93 Under-Story is a MassDOT project to transform the space under the highway from what was an unsafe infrastructural wasteland into a new multi-modal connection between the expanding neighborhoods of the South End and South Boston.
The first phase of the project includes large-scale infrastructure lighting designed by Dan Adams, Urban Landscape Assistant Professor and Lecturer Marie Law Adams of Landing Studio, and much-needed parking for the local neighborhoods designed by an engineering team from Vanasse Hangen Brustlin.
The MassDOT Project Manager for the development is recent Northeastern alumnus Robin Blatt-Eisengart.
The opening event is free and open to the public.
