Torch

Continuing a century-old commitment to educational access, Northeastern University launched the Torch Scholars Program in 2006, a national, bold and innovative initiative awarded to individuals who have overcome exceptional odds and who demonstrate the potential to excel academically.

Torch is dedicated to closing the achievement gap for first-generation, low-income students from diverse backgrounds through a full scholarship and a comprehensive support program that improves the college retention rate, leadership opportunities, social capital, and academic achievement of our students.

Torch Scholars are selected nationally through an extensive nomination and interview process. Boston students are given the closest consideration for Torch. Torch Scholars receive full tuition, fees, and room-and-board scholarships for its Summer Immersion Program and eight subsequent semesters of undergraduate study. Scholars receive personal and academic support from the program throughout their undergraduate careers, including mentoring, workshops, and social events which maintain group identity and camaraderie.
