Overview
The Adult Health CNS program prepares nurses to assume leadership roles as advanced practice clinicians, staff developers, education coordinators or other key contributors in adult health. The program provides advanced study on a full-time or part-time basis culminating with a Master of Science degree in Nursing. The BSN/MS degree in nursing is available for qualified nurses. Nurses who possess an MS in Nursing are eligible for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) program in this specialization.
Curriculum
The curriculum provides sequential learning in nursing theory, research and practice in an environment that supports flexibility, autonomy and creative scholarship. Using theory, scientific methods and clinical involvement, the program focuses on concepts of biophysical and psychosocial models to develop a nursing framework for intervention with adults and their families experiencing acute or chronic health care problems.
Curriculum at a glance.
Practicum
Clinical practice of the advanced nurse is the major focus of this program. All students complete a minimum of 600 hours of precepted clinical learning.
Intensive supervision of clinical work by faculty and expert preceptors provides the necessary practice experience as well as an appreciation of critical analysis as a method of learning.
Students consult with faculty advisors to choose the appropriate settings for their clinical experiences. The School of Nursing maintains affiliations with over 100 agencies in Greater Boston and throughout New England, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Tufts-New England Medical Center.
Faculty
Faculty who teach graduate courses are expert advance practice nurses in their respective specialty areas. All nursing students benefit from the faculty's involvement in research, which includes making discoveries that will lead to better care of the physical and mental health of children, adolescents, adults, and elders. Graduate students can work with our researchers as research assistants and complete required course assignments through participation in their research studies.
