Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN)

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is designed for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to acquire a BSN with licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Overview

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) hybrid program, which comprises 16 months of full-time study, combines online didactic coursework and hands-on learning involving both clinical placements and experience in the skills laboratory. Students work closely with nursing faculty to master the core skills necessary to excel in their nursing career. The program also prepares students to successfully take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and work as a Registered Nurse.

Curriculum

The ABSN curriculum includes 67 credits of undergraduate courses with online learning modules incorporating lectures and learning activities. The majority of these credits are completed online through an e-learning platform that allows students to listen to lectures, submit assignments, complete interactive learning modules, and engage in discussion with faculty and classmates.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must have completed all prerequisites with a minimum grade of C or higher. Science prerequisites (microbiology, anatomy, physiology and chemistry) must have been completed within the last 10 years.

For admissions beginning in Summer 2016 or later, all applicants are required to upload a brief video (no more than 1 minute in length) addressing their interest in nursing and why they believe they would be a successful student in the Northeastern University ABSN program.

The video supplements the applicants’ goal statement and provides the School of Nursing a glimpse of their personality and passion for nursing beyond what the written application can demonstrate. Specifically, the video should address the following question below:

What qualities or experience do you have that make you a good candidate for the Northeastern University ABSN program?
