PRESENTATIONS:

Dr. Cahalin and Ken Chatham, a colleague from Wales, presented their recent research on the effects of Statins upon skeletal muscle at the Annual APTA National Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Dr. Iversen presented her paper entitled, “Validity and comprehensibility of the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Subjective Knee Evaluation Form in children” at the Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden on June 8th.

Dr. Plummer-D’Amato was the invited keynote speaker for the Northern California Kaiser Permanente Rehabilitation Symposium on "Differential Diagnosis and Rehabilitation Management of the Adult with Right Hemispheric Dysfunction" (May)

Dr. Iversen presented a talk entitled, “Application of Medical Simulation in Health Professional Education to Promote Team Care” at the Karolinska Instituet, Stockholm, Sweden, on June 9th. 

Dr. Hayward gave two presentations this June on work conducted with colleague Professor Blackmer. The first entitled, “ A 360-Degree Assessment Model for Fostering Reciprocal Development of Professional Behaviors and Communication Skills Across Academic and Cooperative Education Experiences”at the WACE Conference in Vancouver, Canada.  The second presentation of this work was made at the ASPE in Las Vegas, Nevada and was entitled, “A 360-Degree Assessment Model for Fostering Knowledge Translation, Professional Skills Development and Faculty Scholarship Across a Curricula”.

Dr. Iversen, had a poster at the Annual APTA National Scientific Meeting in Baltimore, MD entitled, “A Systematic Review of Exercise and Manual Therapy for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis”.

Dr. Plummer-D’Amato presented an abstract entitled, "Dual task effects during swing and stance phases of gait after stroke: a pilot study"at the International Society for Posture and Gait Research in Bologna, Italy (June).

Dr. Iversen was an invited speaker to the European League Against Rheumatism Annual Scientific meeting and presented two talks and moderated another scientific session. The talks were entitled, “ What is the Best Exercise Prescription to manage Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis” and Innovations in Adherence to Arthritis Therapies” on June 10th and 12th respectively.

Dr. Iversen was the keynote speaker at Seton Hall University, Department of Physical Therapy’s White Coat Ceremony on September 10, 2009.

Dr. Canavan has been chosen to provide a presentation and workshop entitled "Practical Knee Examination: an evidence and experience based approach"  on October 23, 2009 for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Assembly which will be held in Austin, Texas.
 
Dr. Harris presented her work entitled, Exercise Efficacy in HIV/AIDS in South Africa At the American Physical Therapy Association Annual Conference & Exposition, Baltimore, Maryland, June, 2009. 

Dr. Holden presented her research entitled, Reliability of Hand Kinematics as measured by an instrumented glove (Cyberglove™) during Selected Functional Movements in Subjects with Stroke and Healthy Subjects at the  APTA National Meeting , Baltimore, MD  in June.
 
 
GRANTS:

Dr. Cahalin
and his colleague Ken Chatham (along with another co-investigator, Lauren Healey, who is an adjunct NU instructor  received a research grant from the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section of the APTA to continue their study of Statins upon skeletal muscle.

Dr. Plummer-D’Amato
was awarded the Bouve College Proposal Development Grant for a project entitled, "Cognitive-motor interference during gait in community-dwelling individuals with stroke".

Dr. Markowski
received a grant from Educational Technology to develop a multi-media learning tool.

Dr. Iversen is co-investigator on a grant entiled, "OPTIMA: A blinded randomized controlled trial of motivational interviewing to  improve compliance with osteoporosis medications. Funded by NIAMS.

Dr. Iversen and colleagues from Brigham & Women's Hospital received a grant from the National Arthritis Foundation to study access to Disease Mondifying Anti Rheumatic Agends (DMARDs) Among Persons with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
