No longer accepting freshmen starting Fall 2009.

Northeastern University has been educating athletic trainers for over thirty years and is a national leader offering the only comprehensive cooperative education program for athletic training in the country. The rich combination of clinical experiences in and around Boston combined with national and international co-op employment experiences is unmatched by any other university.

At the corner stone of our program is the concept of "total integration". Unlike other programs that teach courses with narrow subject matter that tend to build from one year to the next and leaves the student to figure out how it all works together, our approach to education reflects the professional philosophy of total patient care. This is best represented by our three assessment courses that include lectures, practical skills labs and cadaver labs integrated into one course. The student will in effect, hear it (lecture), see it (cadaver lab) and do it (practical skills lab). In addition, the basic skills developed in earlier courses such as therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise will be incorporated allowing the student to learn, discuss, and master "total integration" as it relates to patient care.

The diverse academic and clinical faculty works together on research, clinical practice and education, providing students with many perspectives on and the practice of athletic training. Many of our faculty and Affiliated Clinical Instructors are active locally and nationally in professional organizations including the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers Association and the Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts.

We have great confidence in our approach to education, but the true measure of our success is the quality of our graduates. With a 100% pass rate on the national board exam and a first time pass rate that is three times the national average our students are clearly well prepared to enter the world of sports medicine. Looking beyond the typical academic and clinical work our students also excel in a variety of undergraduate research activities. All program graduates complete a capstone research project including the formal presentation/publication in a variety of professional research forums.

The success of our Program reaches far beyond academics and clinical expertise, having been the first and only academic program to receive the Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for outstanding contributions and achievement in the profession of Athletic training.
