expressionism

Expressionism is the drama of the mind, distorting the surrounding environment in order to showcase an individual’s inner emotions. The Germans used Expressionism in reaction to fascism, the war, and oppression. In Boston, too, strange shapes lurk in the Fenway gardens, suggesting that all is not well in the city. Perhaps they are reacting to the prospect of Boston losing one of its most beloved landmarks, Fenway Park, and having it replaced by a polished corporate image that lacks the sentimental attachment of the Green Monster. This, as well as the extended construction of the Big Dig, fuels the citizens’ frustrations towards a city determined to destroy its traditions in the effort to rebuild itself.
