2007 Barry A. Berkowitz Symposium on Biotechnology

The Biotechnology Initiative was honored to host the late Dr. Judah Folkman, Andrus Professor of Pediatric Surgery at Harvard Medical School and director of the vascular biology program at Children's Hospital Boston at the 5th annual Barry A. Berkowitz Symposium on Biotechnology on April 2, 2007. Addressing a standing room only crowd in Raytheon Amphitheater, Dr. Folkman spoke about his difficulty in convincing the scientific community of his novel ideas on angiogenesis back in the 1970s. His hypothesis, made in 1971, that solid tumors are angiogenesis-dependent initiated studies that today span diverse disciplines from developmental biology to opthalmology and dermatology.
