Dr. Giese's research is in the detection and identification of trace analytes such as genotoxic chemicals, DNA adducts, environmental contaminants, steroids, and bio-active peptides by mass spectrometry.  The work combines analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry to advance the reagents and techniques available for sample preparation.  Novel tags are developed for derivatization to increase analyte response and selectivity.
