Semester Abroad Programs

Northeastern presently has a formal relationship with nine universities in Asia (listed below)
where students can study for a semester or a full academic year. Studying abroad at one of these
universities provides students with an ideal environment for foreign language acquisition while
also enabling them to have direct contact with the culture and society. Living with a host family
is often possible. In addition to these nine universities, students are also permitted to pursue
study aboard programs through other universities.

For additional information and admissions requirements for these programs, students can visit
the Northeastern University Office of International Study Programs website.

Student Testimonials

My semester abroad in Beijing has been the highlight of my Northeastern experience. IES was the perfect mixture of laid back professors and an eclectic group of students from all over the United States. During my five months in Beijing I travelled across China both independently and with professors, visiting a total of four municipalities, eleven different provinces, and two special administrative regions. My language skills improved exponentially from living with a Chinese roommate from Sichuan and taking classes with Chinese professors. IES presented me with amazing opportunities to experience a different version of China, completely unique to this program, which most visitors are rarely given the chance to see. I am so grateful for the incredible experiences I had, memories I made and the lifelong friendships I have forged.
