The Asian Studies Program requires its majors to spend time in Asia in an educationally and
culturally meaningful setting. This could include Northeastern University’s semester and
year abroad programs, Dialogue of Civilizations program, international co-ops, experiential
education programs, or other exchange programs not run through the university. The program’s
requirement for firsthand experience in Asia stems from a belief that the most valuable and
effective method of understanding Asia is to spend time there.
