Founded in l984, the Asian Studies Program has grown rapidly in recent years, and now offers a
Bachelor of Arts major alongside our long-standing minor in East Asian studies (fully described
at its website http://www.neu.edu/eastasian). With the rising global importance of Asia, students
majoring in Asian Studies are prepared to avail themselves of the increasing number of emerging
Asia-related career opportunities. Our curriculum offers students a multidisciplinary approach,
with over forty courses from eight separate departments, providing concentrations in 2 regions:
East Asia (China, Japan and Korea) and South Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka),
and a set of courses examining Asian diasporas into western countries. In addition to a wide
variety of courses, the Asian Studies program sponsors extracurricular events on campus and
encourages students to take advantage of the wealth of off-campus activities in the Boston area.
