Northeastern University

Ami Takahashi - Class of 2013

Why did you choose this major, and does/did it seem like the right major for you? Why?

I want to help people and make a positive impact on society and human services is the best fit for me to do that. Being a Human Service major allows me to fulfill my desire to learn about the issues in our society and the ways that I can make a difference.

Why did you choose NU? Was/is this the right school for you?

I chose Northeastern mainly for the co-op program and the location. Boston is an exciting and thriving city perfect for young, ambitious adults.

How many co-ops have you completed?

Completed 1, just started my second.

If you participated in co-op, can you list give a quick synopsis of what you did?

  • Northeastern University Curry Student Center as the Operations Services Manager: Staffed and managed over 50 students in the primary areas of the Curry Student Center including the Game Room, Info Desk, 360 Gallery, and Operations Desk, as well as the Building Manager Program; other responsibilities included event coordination and and planning, working with the Game Room budget, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Be The Change as the OpportunityNation Assistant Co-op: Helping the team in whatever way I can. Responsibilities so far have been completing small projects, plenty of internet research on current events, attending and contributing ideas to conference meetings, etc.

If you participated in co-op, what were the highlights/great learning opportunities you gained?

I learned professionalism, networking, and personal traits such as my strengths, weaknesses, and future goals

Did you have any other "learning from outside of the classroom" (service learning, student leadership, study abroad, research, or volunteering) that also enriched your time here?

Volunteering/working with Boston youth was a valuable and insightful experience.

    Have you Graduated from NU?

    Not yet.
