Introduction
The Northeastern University Alumni Online Community Services,
Alumni Website and Alumni Group microsites (known collectively
as the Alumni Online Community), are provided by the Alumni
Association and Northeastern University, and are intended
to facilitate communication among alumni for appropriate personal
and University-related purposes. Use of the Alumni Online
Community is a privilege governed by the Terms of Use described
in this document.
Security
and Privacy
The University takes reasonable steps to safeguard personal
information available through the Alumni Online community.
For example, access to the Alumni Online Community is limited
to registered University alumni only, where a password is
required to login. In addition, individuals can choose to
display or hide any or all of their personal information.
Owing to the nature of internet communications and web technology,
users are advised to apply discretion when deciding which
items of personal information are selected for display to
others.
Policy
and Guidelines for Appropriate Use
The University adopts guidelines and policies to inform appropriate
conduct in the Alumni Online Community experience. These policies
incorporate the terms of the Northeastern University Appropriate
Use Policy available from www.help.neu.edu, as well as the
following regulations terms of use.
Use
of Copyrighted Material
Unauthorized copying, reproduction, republishing, retransmission,
uploading, downloading, posting or duplication of material
is prohibited. Users may download or copy downloadable content
displayed on the Alumni Online Community for home, noncommercial
or personal use only; provided however that all copyright,
trademark and other notices contained in such material are
maintained, and that use of the material is consistent with
the Alumni Online Community Terms of Use. Users agree to abide
by any additional copyright notices or restrictions contained
in material ac cessed through the Alumni Online Community.
Prohibited
Uses of Information
Use of the Alumni Online Community and/or the information
stored therein for commercial or business purposes of any
kind, for personal gain or for political purposes, is prohibited.
Prohibited activities also include, but are not limited to
solicitations for commercial services, harvesting of information,
cold-calling and mass-mailings.
Aliases
All aliases created in Alumni Online Community are subject
to review and approval by the University and/or the Alumni
Association to assure consistency with the Terms of Use and/or
Appropriate Use Policy. The University reserves the right
to reject any alias. The sole discretion of the University
shall apply in all cases.
Screening
and Monitoring
Neither the University nor the Alumni Association is responsible
for screening information prior to posting on the Alumni Online
Community. The University may do so however, in its discretion.
In addition, neither the University nor the Alumni Association
does not routinely monitor the use of the Alumni Online Community,
except only as stated in the Terms of Use, the Northeastern
University Appropriate Use Policy, or as may be required by
law. pursuant to act of government.
Abuse
Reporting and Privacy Inquiries
Users wishing to report abuse or to inquire about privacy
concerns are invited to contact the Alumni Association at
husky@neu.edu.
Limitation,
Suspension or Termination of Service
The University reserves the right to limit, suspend or terminate
service to any user found to have used the Alumni Online Community
in a manner inconsistent with the Terms of Use, Appropriate
Use Policy, local, state or Federal law, or in a manner that
creates liability for the Alumni Association and/or the University.
The sole discretion of the University shall apply in all cases.
Liability,
Indemnity and Warranties
The University makes no representations or warranties about
the accuracy, reliability, completeness or timeliness of any
information held in the Alumni Online Community, nor does
the University warrant the Alumni Online Community will always
be available, nor that it will operate error-free. Users are
advised that networks and websites may carry computer viruses,
worms and other harmful material, and that reasonable precautions
should be taken by users of the Alumni Online Community.
To
the extent permitted by the law, the University disclaims
all warranties, including warranties of merchantability, non-infringement,
and fitness for particular purpose. In no event shall the
University be liable for any damages whatsoever, including,
without limitation, direct, indirect, incidental, and/or consequential
damages or loss or profits, relating to claims concerning
user’s use of or inability to use information or materials
available in the Alumni Online Community.
Indemnification
By using the Alumni Online Community, users agree to indemnify,
defend, and hold harmless the the University, Alumni Association,
and their respective employees, agents and assigns from and
against any and all losses, claims, damages, costs, and expenses
that may arise from use of the Alumni Online Community, and/or
from user breach of these policies. The University reserves
the right to participate in the investigation, settlement,
and defense of any such action or claim. The University reserves
the right to approve choice of counsel, and any potential
settlement of such a claim.
Terms
of Use Subject to Revision
The University reserves the right to change this policy and/or
its incorporated policies at any time, without prior notice.
Changes to policies are effective upon posting.
Registration
and Acceptance of Terms of Use
In order to participate in the online services offered by
the Alumni Online Community, users must accept the Terms of
Use. To do so, please click the “ACCEPT” button
when registering. By clicking on this button, you agree to
abide by the policies outlined in this document. If you do
not accept the terms of use, please click on the "Do
Not Accept" button, nor visit the websites mentioned
herein.
