NUSL is hosting Intellectual Property Law Conference for graduates, students and other practitioners in the field
Intellectual Property Law: Old Rights In a New World
The panel topics include:
The 2007 Supreme Courts Rocks the US Patent Boat: Will Congress Tip it Over? This panel, moderated by Professor Wendy Seltzer, will discuss recent Supreme Court decisions and the pending patent law overhaul by Congress.
Brands without Boundaries: Trademark Issues for the Twenty-First Century will be moderated by Professor Stacey Dogan and will cover hot topics in trademark law, potentially including Google and keyword ad placement, protection for product design, the new federal dilution law, and the challenges of protecting trademarks in a global marketplace.
A Rockin’ Roller Coaster: Copyright in an Internet Age, Professor Rashmi Dyal-Chand, will deal with cutting-edge, internet-related copyright issues, potentially including the Viacom lawsuit against YouTube and intermediary liability.

| Connections Networking Reception for NUSL Alumni/ae and Current Students |
Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 6-8 pm at Goulston & Storrs
Join us for “Connections,” the the law school’s annual career networking that benefits current students. Sponsored by the Connections Committee of the Alumni/ae Association, the Connections reception is provides an informal opportunity for students to learn from alumni/ae about a broad range of career options. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Graduates will be clustered at small tables within their field of specialization so that students can chat with a wide variety of our very own NUSL experts in the field.
Information was sent to all alumni/ae in New England in late November. Please contact the Office of Alumni/ae Relations at 617.373.8268 with any questions or if you live of outside New England and would like to participate.

| Valerie Gordon Human Rights Lecture |
On March 3, 2008, Noon – 1:30 p.m., Gay McDougall, UN Special Expert on Racial and Ethnic Minorities, will speak on “A 21st Century Global View of Racial Justice,” at the 15th Annual Valerie Gordon Human Rights Lecture. This will be followed by a social justice photography exhibit opening from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. and a panel discussion on Human Rights and Racial Justice in Our Communities from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Panelists include: Barbara Ferrer, Executive Director, Boston Public Health Commission; Alan Jenkins, Executive Director, The Opportunity Agenda; Daniel Losen, Senior Education Law and Policy Associate, The Civil Rights Project, Harvard Law School; Gay McDougall, UN Special Expert on Racial and Ethnic Minorities; Byron Rushing, Massachusetts State Representative.
The panel will be moderated by Margaret Burnham, NUSL Professor of Law. |

| NUSL is Celebrating Our 40th Anniversary in October 2008 |
| On October 16-18, 2008, we’re planning a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the re-opening of the School of Law. If you’re part of a reunion class being honored, we are also planning an event for your class, which will be incorporated into this exciting celebration. Reunion classes include: 1953, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003. On Friday, October 17, we will host academic panels and a faculty reception/tour of new School of Law facilities at NUSL. On Saturday evening, October 18, we are planning an upscale affair at the John J. Moakley US Courthouse. Watch for more details via snail mail. |

Harry T. Daniels '71 was chosen as one of five people selected by Mass Lawyers Weekly as a Diversity Hero.
Paul S. Moore ’88 was selected as one of 14 persons in the state of New Hampshire for a Spirit Award for in the volunteer service category.
Claude d'Estree '89 was recently appointed Delegate and Rapporteur to the United Nations Vieena Forum to Fight Human Trafficking. The Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking will be held February 13-15 in Vienna to raise awareness of human trafficking.
Laura R. Taichman ’95 was featured in a recent New York Law Journal article about the leading role she played in the exoneration of a childhood acquaintance who was serving a life sentence, falsely convicted of killing his parents.
