NUSL to Host First Labor and Employment Law Conference
Nov. 18, 2006, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., followed by an informal lunch


NUSL is holding its first Labor and Employment Law Conference for graduates and other practitioners in the field.

The panel topics include:
Immigrant Workers: the substantive and remedial issues they create for labor unions, employers and government enforcement agencies
Lawyering from Within: the challenges faced by union and employer in-house counsel when dealing with one's colleagues, the other side and outside counsel
The Differing Perspective of Neutrals: a dialogue among judges, arbitrators and mediators on settling, managing and deciding employment cases

The Making of a Civil Rights Lawyer
Join distinguished professor and former dean Michael Meltsner for a book reading and signing of his highly acclaimed new memoir, The Making of a Civil Rights Lawyer, which encompasses his experiences as a civil rights attorney during the 1960s.

As one of the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund's top lawyers, Meltsner worked with such notables as Thurgood Marshall and William Kuntsler and represented Muhammad Ali in his attempt to get his boxing license restored by the state of New York.

2007 Loan Deferral and Forgiveness Program
The School of Law is accepting applications for its 2007 Loan Deferral and Forgiveness Program (LDF).

To submit an application, please refer to the 2007 Guidelines and Application. The first round application deadline is October 31, 2006.

This critical program has issued more than $2 million to 370 graduates employed in the public interest sector over the past 17 years.
