Faculty News
The law school is searching for a dynamic and creative director of legal research and writing, a non-tenure track faculty position. Applications should be submitted by November 9, 2007, with a letter, resume and three references to Peter Enrich, Chair, LRW Search Committee. For more details about the position, contact p.enrich@neu.edu.

Congratulations to Professor Dan Danielsen who is leaving the law school for a position on the faculty of Brown University in the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions beginning in the summer of 2008.


Graduates in the News

In May of 2007, The Honorable Isaac Borenstein ’75 received the Cornelius Moynihan Teaching Excellence Award at Suffolk Law School, the first time an adjunct professor has received the award.

Toni Messina ’88 is featured in the November edition of MORE, a magazine geared to women over 40. Messina is a criminal defense lawyer who has her own flamenco dance troupe and performs around the corner from the court.

Leslie Winner ’76 is the new executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation whose mission is to improve the quality of life of the people of North Carolina.

NUSL is Hosting an Intellectual Property Conference
We’re planning a half-day conference focusing on intellectual property issues on March 29, 2008 (new date). Professor Stacey Dogan and Gordon Moriarty ’93 will serve as conference co-chairs and we will offer three panels that will focus on copyright, trademark and patent issues. Finding the Right Career Path

Have you started to think about whether to make a job or career change and what to do next?

The Offices of Alumni/ae Relations and Career Services at the School of Law are hosting a panel for graduates who are grappling with these questions. This panel will feature three graduates who have done a number of interesting and different things in and around the law and have been creative with their careers. Chuck Bookman ’95 and Nima Eshgi ’96 will discuss their career paths and offer important insight into switching career tracks. Kathy Morris ’75, a long-time, leading legal career counselor and the chief training and development officer for Sidley Austin LLP, will anchor the panel and offer her expertise.

 
The College Cost Reduction and Access Act
The College Cost Reduction and Access Act (H.R. 2669) was signed into Law September 27, 2007. This act provides relief for graduates who are repaying federal student loans. The School of Law takes great pride in having assisted those who successfully advocated for this new public service loan forgiveness program. To read more about this act, click here.

NUSL is Celebrating Our 40th Anniversary in October 2008
On October 16-18, 2008, we’re planning a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the re-opening of the School of Law. If you’re part of a reunion class being honored, we are also planning an event for your class, which will be incorporated into this exciting celebration. Reunion classes include: 1953, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003. Watch for more details via snail mail.
 
Valerie Gordon Lecture
The 15th Annual Valerie Gordon Human Rights Lecture will be held on March 3, 2008, at noon. Our featured speaker this year is Gay MacDougall, member of the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. She will discuss “A 21st century view of racial discrimination worldwide.”
