NUSL to Host First Labor and Employment Law Conference
Saturday, November 18, 2006, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by an informal lunch
NUSL is holding its first Labor and Employment Law Conference for graduates and other practitioners in the field.

The panel topics include immigration, mediation and arbitration, union-related topics and more.

Speakers include: Dean Emily A. Spieler, Mark Irvings '75, Hon. Herbert Abrams '56, Joshua Abrams '97, Hon. Janet B. Arterton '77, Marta M. Figueroa '77, Harriet E. Gould '85, Richard F. Griffin '81, Marielena Hincapie '96, Christine Nickerson '92, Ira Sills '77, and Laura Schneider '92.

Harry T. Daniels '71 Honored as Outstanding Alumnus of the School of Law
Each year, Northeastern University honors a small and distinguished group of outstanding alumni/ae for their professional and community accomplishments.

This year the law school had one of our own honored: Harry T. Daniels '71.

Daniels was one of the first African Americans to be hired by a major Boston law firm and the first African American to attain the rank of senior partner at Hale and Dorr — now Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr — one of the most prestigious law firms in the US.

Daniels' honors include being listed in Best Lawyers in America, The National Law Journal as one of the "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America" in Boston Magazine as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" in business litigation, and in Boston Magazine as one of "Boston's 100 Most Powerful People."

He has served as a trustee for the university since 1995 and as at trustee for both the Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Foundation for Sight.

Professor Roger Abrams is named Scholar-in-Residence at Baseball Hall of Fame
Professor Roger Abrams is in Cooperstown, NY, this fall as the Scholar-in-Residence at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Abrams is only the fourth professor in history to be named a Scholar-in-Residence at the hall since it opened 1939. While in residence, Abrams has access to all of the Hall's unprecedented collection of 2.6 million items related to baseball history.

Abrams, the Richardson Professor of Law at Northeastern, is a leading authority on law and the business of sports. While in residence, Abrams is working to complete his latest book, The Dark Side of the Diamond, which examines the role of violence, gambling, game-fixing, alcoholism and drug abuse in the national game.

Abrams will deliver four lectures open to all visitors while he is at the Hall of Fame. More details.

James Bell, founder and executive director of the W. Haywood Burns Institute, will be in residence for three days as a part of the prestigious Daynard fellowship program.
