Jeanine Pace Hamilton, BA'87
If you have an idea for an alumnus/a to spotlight, contact Steve Daly in the Office of Alumni Relations. |
While many entrepreneurs have avoided the choppy waters of an unsteady economy, preferring to wait for some measure of stability before launching a new business venture, hesitation wasn’t part of the plan for Jeanine Pace Hamilton.
“I knew what I wanted to do, and I knew how I wanted to do it,” said Hamilton, BA’87, who in 2008 launched Hire Partnership, a Boston-based staffing service company. “I had 18 years of experience in the industry and I had always thought about opening my own agency.”
The final push came when Hamilton was laid off and realized there was no better opportunity to forge ahead.
“It was time. I really felt like someone was saying to me, ‘Jeanine, go for it,’ ” Hamilton said.
“I don’t think a recession is necessarily a bad time to open a business because you don’t have all the overhead, you don’t have all the headaches thinking about layoffs and things of that nature. I didn’t even think about it, quite honestly. It was like, I’ll just do this and be successful, regardless of what’s happening out there.”
