The second annual Husky Hugs Drive, administered by Northeastern’s Student Alumni Association in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, distributed more than 1,100 teddy bears to children in need over the holidays, more than doubling last year’s total of 450.
Bears were distributed in the Boston area through the Casa Myrna Vasquez, Cradles to Crayons, the Italian Home for Children, and Toys for Tots programs. Additionally, thanks to the support of members our Regional Alumni Chapter Programs, bears were also provided to children in Los Angeles, New York City, and New Hampshire.
The Husky Hugs Drive also collaborated with the Stony Brook Initiative, a program that focuses on partnerships in the neighborhoods surrounding Northeastern on issues affecting youth and community development. Through this collaboration, bears were also distributed through the Boston Medical Center Pediatrics Unit and the Home for Little Wanderers.
In addition to the donation of new teddy bears, many alumni, family, faculty, staff, and friends of the University made a financial contribution which allowed the success of Husky Hugs to far surpass expectations.
Thank you so much to all who participated in the Husky Hugs Drive. We’re already looking forward to next year!
