Mission Statement

The Student Alumni Association is committed to the bond between the students and alumni of Northeastern University; striving to offer educational, social, and character enriching activities and events for all past, present, and future Huskies.

History

  • Founded in 1978, the Student Alumni Association (SAA) is Northeastern’s liaison between the past, present, and future of the Northeastern student body. 
  • SAA is comprised of 50 students who work to serve Northeastern through community service, alumni engagement, and successful student programs.
  • The Student Alumni Association is a “closed-membership organization”—meaning that all members must apply and go through an interview process before their official induction into the organization.

        Student-Alumni Connections

        5 Under 25—This panel discussion brings young alumni back to campus to share their stories and success with current students. Below is the 2008-2009 schedule:

        September 25: College of Arts and Sciences
        (science focus)
        October 23: College of Engineering
        November 20: College of Business Administration
        January 29: College of Arts and Sciences (arts focus)
        February 26: Bouvé College of Health Sciences
        March 12: College of Criminal Justice
        April 2: College of Computer and Information Sciences

        Trivia/Game Night—During the academic year, SAA hosts an event for SAA members and local alumni to enjoy a night of trivia, games, prizes, food, and fun.

        November 2008 & March 2009

        Alumni FanFests—Before selected home athletic events SAA participates in pregame gatherings where members get the opportunity to network with Northeastern alumni and their families. 

        NU Family Day at Fenway—Each year SAA works with the Office of Alumni Relations to bring fun games, tours, and family fun to Northeastern alumni at Fenway Park.

        Community Service

        Husky Hugs—A teddy bear drive which gives local children a “hug” during the holiday season.

        Join the Student Alumni Association for an opportunity to get involved with Husky Hugs. This community service program is dedicated to bringing a smile to children in the Boston area. We are asking you to participate by purchasing a new teddy bear and sending it to us for distribution among local children's charities during the holiday season. Last year, we collected over 450 bears and were able to give many "hugs" throughout the Boston community.

        Donations will be accepted until December 12, 2008.
        Please send a new teddy bear -- health regulations prevent charities from accepting used items. Teddy bears can be sent to:

        StonyBrook Initiative

        *These charities are in the South End and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods, which are a part of the Stony Brook Initiative, a collaborative effort between Northeastern and its neighbors to redefine urban engagement.  Visit www.northeastern.edu/stonybrook for more information.

        Bringing Cheer—During the holiday season SAA hosts a holiday party at the Cambridge YWCA for children and their mothers.

        December 3, 2008

        Walking for a Cause—Throughout the academic year, SAA volunteers at charity walks such as the Walk for Hunger, Relay for Life, and the Breast Cancer Walk.

        University Wide Programs

        Homecoming / “Mayor of Huntington Avenue”—During this week of Husky pride, SAA participates in all Homecoming contests and sponsors the “Mayor of Huntington Avenue” (MOHA) competition.

        Snowball—Co-sponsorship with the Resident Student Association (RSA), SAA plans Northeastern’s annual winter formal.

        Internal Programs

        Fall Retreat—After new members have been accepted into SAA, the entire group embarks for a weekend of team building at the Warren Conference Center

        October 4-5, 2008

        Final Dinner—At the end of each semester, SAA gathers over dinner to induct our new members, say good-bye to our graduates, and celebrate our accomplishments.

        End of fall/spring semesters

        Conference ’09—Northeastern University is hosting the Association for Student Advancement Programs' District 1 Regional conference this year and is expecting over 15 schools to visit Boston for the event.
