Explosives Detection in Air Cargo

The Tenth Workshop on the Development of Advanced Algorithms for Security Applications (ADSA10) has been scheduled for May 6th and 7th at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.  The title of the workshop will be “Explosive Detection in Cargo for Aviation Security.” A formal invitation along with the agenda and logistics information will be sent to invitees in March.

The workshop is being convened by the DHS Center of Excellence for Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats (ALERT).

This workshop is a closed event. Participation is by invitation only.

Workshop Information

This spring’s ADSA will take place on Tuesday, May 6th, from 8:30am – 6:40pm & Wednesday, May 7th, from 8:00am – 4:00pm

Registration will start at 7:30am on both days.

Registration is limited for this event, so please register early. Registration will end on May 1st or when event capacity is reached.

Presentations will address the following topics:

  • Phenomenology being exploited for explosive detection
  • Advantages and disadvantages of the method over other methods
  • Limitations based on concealment, containment, explosive type, minimum mass and other factors
  • Time and barriers for commercialization
  • Concept of operations and applications
  • Review of past and present solutions
  • Differences between cargo inspection, baggage inspection and passenger inspection

Additional topics that may be addressed at the workshop include:

  • Deterrence, hardening and game theory
  • Database development and computer simulations
  • Emerging technologies

Reimbursements – Available for Academic Speakers Only

Please pay any expenses you consider to be eligible for reimbursement (see guidelines) and please complete our expense reimbursement form and submit along with original receipts to Melanie Smith (please make photocopies for your records) at the address below. Please include your home address if you would like the reimbursement made to your attention.
