F3-E Multi-modal Sensor-Networks

View 2010 Progress Report

Abstract:This ALERT project investigates the development of wide-area monitoring algorithms for threat detection from distributed multi-modal sensor observations. We consider a group of low-resolution binary sensors along with multiple cameras distributed over a wide area. Each low-resolution binary sensor identifies whether or not a threat attribute exists among the entities traveling within its neighborhood. The camera network tracks different entities in the field of view. Our goal is to develop algorithms for isolating the entity or set of entities which present a significant threat. We also investigate decentralized inferencing algorithms, based on recent developments in compressive sensing, to adapt to low-power, low bandwidth communication scenarios.
