Field Trips to be announced as dates become available.

Firm crawl (n.): 1. A tour of area firms and businesses
2. An opportunity to visit local firms, ask questions, discover their firm culture and talk to practicing professionals

Firm crawls are great ways of familiarizing yourself with successful local architecture firms, especially if you have yet to go on co-op. We will be scheduling one firm a month and will announce the dates here and at general meetings. Firm crawls are currently open to Northeastern University Architecture students.

There are currently no scheduled architecture lectures at Northeastern. However, there is always a lecture going on at one of the many area architecture schools that are free and open to the public.

Please visit the MIT Lecture Series page or the Harvard Lecture Series page to attend an architecture lecture at either of these schools.

FORUM

Forum2010logo

FORUM is the annual meeting of the AIAS and the global gathering of the architecture and design students. The event provides students with the opportunity to learn about important issues facing architectural education and the profession, to meet students, educators, and professionals with common interests, and to interact with some of today's leading architects through keynote addresses, tours, workshops and seminars. FORUM 2010 will be held in Toronto, Canada on December 29, 2009-January 1, 2010.

Visit the official AIAS FORUM 2010 site or watch the promo video!

Grassroots

Grassroots10logo

The Grassroots conference offers instruction on how to be an effective leader, run a successful AIAS chapter, offers tips on motivating and organizing students, and is an opportunity to meet student leaders from across North America. The conference is designed for the chapter presidents and vice presidents but other emerging leaders are invited and encouraged to attend. Every chapter is expected to be represented.

The conference offers more than leadership development programs. The attendees will also participate in the governance of the AIAS when they meet as the Council of Presidents (COP). During these meetings, the attendees participate in the governance of the AIAS and are informed on important issues and ideas relevant to students, architectural education and the profession (voting is limited one delegate from each chapter in good standing). This discourse sets the future direction for the organization. The 26th annual Grassroots Leadership Conference was held in Washington, DC on July 22-25, 2010,

Quad

There are 130 AIAS chapters in the US, each broken down into four different quadrants: the west, midwest, south and northeast quads. Each year, the Quads host conferences in the fall and spring. They are hosted by an AIAS chapter in the region and the themes vary. The conferences are a terrific way to meet other students in your region, to learn about architecture outside of the classrooms and have a lot of fun.

The AIAS members of Northeastern University join 45 other schools from Ontario to Virginia to form the Northeast Quad. To learn more about our quad and contact the quad director, visit the NE Quad AIAS site.

The Fall 2010 Quad Conference will be held at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York.
For more information regarding the fall conference, visit the Syracuse AIAS website.

The Spring 2011 Quad Conference will be held at University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York.
For more information regarding the spring conference, visit the NE Spring Quad site.
