ADVANCE Networking Events

Networking Events are one of Northeastern ADVANCE's mentoring programs. The Networking Events include a series of workshops and conferences having panels of women senior faculty talking about (for eg.) work/life issues, navigating to tenure track, how to build international networks and collaboration. Outlined below are our upcoming workshops:

Fall 2009 & Spring 2010 EVENTS

ADVANCE Open House - informal reception

Description: Stop by for an informal reception to learn about ADVANCE and meet with colleagues.

Negotiation Skills and Leadership Development
Date / Location: 26 October 2009, 11:45 - 1:25 pm, Alumni Pavilion, 716 Columbus Place
Description: Speaker Prof. Hannah Riley-Bowles (Harvard), discusses the power of good negotiation skills and gender differences in negotiation outcomes.

Women and Global Science
Date / Location: 17 November 2009, 4 - 6 pm, 440 Egan Research Center
Description: An afternoon discussion on women in science, humanities and social sciences and how to establish/maintain international research and global collaborations with alumni of the Fulbright Exchange Program followed by hors d'oeuvres and networking.

Research Interest Exchange and Presentation Critique

Description: Meet faculty in complimentary research areas and practice effective communication of your work through a peer review of a 5 minute presentation of your research.

Luncheon & Panel of Faculty with Administration Experience

Career Decision Making

Description: Professor Y. Barry Chung, Chair of Counseling and Applied Psychology will present on "Strategies to Match your Career Personality."

SUMMER 2009 EVENTS

Navigating the pre - tenure years
Date: 20 May 2009
Description: Come meet with recently tenured faculty and share experience on how to navigate and manage choices in the years before the tenure review.

Supporting Research w/ Different Funding Mechanisms
Date: 22 June 2009
Description: Faculty who have funded their research through NIH, NSF, and private foundations will share their experience and strategies for finding funding opportunities and writing, strengthening, and securing funding for their research proposals

Balancing Work and Life
Date: 20 July 2009
Description: Faculty will share their experience and strategies for balancing their career and family life, including strategies for childcare

Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Date: 12 August 2009
Description: Meet faculty in complimentary research areas, learn to more effectively communicate your research area, and initiate discussion of interdisciplinary collaborations through this research exchange. Based on the RSVP, faculty will be paired in groups of 4 and have 10 minutes each to share their research focus and obtain feedback and questions from their group on clarifying and sharpening their research pitch.
