Our students work tremendously hard—and 18 Division I athletic teams play even harder. Cheer on Northeastern’s men’s and women’s ice hockey as they go for the Beanpot or catch a basketball game at historic Matthews Arena. Our teams are among the most successful in New England and host some of the biggest collegiate events each year. #GoNU!
Students can get their competitive juices flowing with one of our more than 40 intramural and 30 club teams in sports including lacrosse, rugby, ultimate frisbee, and badminton—over 3,000 students participate in intramural or club sports.
Northeastern students stretch their muscles at one of three state-of-the-art fitness centers on campus:
- The Marino Recreation Center boasts three floors of fitness equipment, basketball courts, rock climbing, aerobics and physical-fitness classes, free weights, weight machines, and a suspended running track.
- The Cabot Center offers indoor facilities for racquetball, volleyball, tennis, and soccer, as well as a running track, swimming pool, and driving range.
- The Badger and Rosen SquashBusters Facility houses eight squash courts and 52 workout stations and features a spectacular view of the Boston skyline.
Husky fans are everywhere! 98% of students attend a sporting event each year in support of their favorite teams. The popular NCentives program is a great way to win Northeastern gear and other prizes—just for supporting the Huskies!
If you’re not able to see the Huskies in action, you can show your support by downloading the athletics iPhone app, following us on Twitter and Facebook, or subscribing to the Huskies Hotwire newsletter.
Did you know that our very own Matthews Arena was once home to the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics? How about that Matthews is the world’s oldest indoor hockey arena in the world? The storied venue celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2010.
