More than 7,000 international students, exchange visitors, and scholars from 140 countries study and engage in research at Northeastern each year. In addition, they are joined by about 350 U.S. citizens who call a country outside of the U.S. home.

International Student and Scholar Institute (ISSI)
‘The Home Away From Home’ for students from around the world. The ISSI offers a variety of programs that recognize and celebrate the dynamic interplay and breadth of backgrounds and perspectives reflected in our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and neighbors in the surrounding communities. As an international student seeking advice on immigration regulations or acculturation, you’ll find a passionate staff and a world of friends ready to help with any aspect of your cross-cultural journey.
ISSI Orientation
At the beginning of each fall and spring semester, ISSI offers several weeks of events and activities designed to assist students with diverse international background who are transitioning from their home culture into the Northeastern University community. You will have many opportunities to meet your fellow classmates, learn from one another’s experiences, find assistance, get settled, and learn about the culture and history of the United States. The U.S. citizens who are re-integrating into American culture are encouraged to take advantage of various social activities and seminars offered by ISSI.
There are certain forms required for you to complete that will enable you to obtain the visa eligibility document (I-20 or DS-2019) necessary to apply for a student visa in order to enter and study in the United States under the proper non-immigrant visa classification.

American Classroom Program
If you have been admitted into the American Classroom Program, you will have the opportunity to improve your language skills, advance your academic skills, and gain an understanding of the American education system all while taking academic courses. You also will receive advice and assistance in completing your application to an undergraduate or graduate program at Northeastern.
